Intuit proudly proclaims Quickbooks' status as the leading accounting package for small and medium-sized businesses. It can be used to meet the accounting needs of a growing firm with up to 500 staff, or the more modest requirements of a sole proprietor with a home-based office. There are multiple versions of the program, which have varying system requirements.
Quickbooks Pro and Premier
System requirements for the desktop versions of Quickbooks are very moderate, and the software should run on most computers built since the turn of the century. The 2016 edition of Quickbooks requires at least a 2 GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, though a faster processor is recommended and 2GB of RAM is necessary for multi-user systems. The program requires 2.5GB of free hard disk space, and data files will require additional space. At least a 4X CD-ROM drive is required for CD installation, and your display should support at least 1024X768 resolution. Quickbooks will also support up to one extended monitor.
Quickbooks Enterprise
Client workstations under Quickbooks Enterprise 13 require at least a 2GHz processor, with 1GB RAM for a single user. Multiple users, or workstations with the 64-bit version of Windows 8, require 2GB of RAM. The server also requires a 2 GHz processor, with 2.4 GHz recommended. Linux servers require only a minimum 1.2 GHz processor, with 2.0 GHz recommended. Server RAM must be at least 1GB, with 2GB recommended for better performance. The basic installation requires 2.5GB of hard disk space, with additional storage for data. Network hardware must include 100 Mbps network cards and router, and 40 Mbps of network bandwidth.
