Intuit's QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions product line responds to the needs of larger businesses that require more than five simultaneous connections to the software and that need to create reports involving more than one company. It also provides the higher security that bigger organizations expect in a multi-user environment. If you're using QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 8 with QuickBooks 2008, you can set up your hardware, operating system, helper applications and additional configuration details to meet modest minimum requirements.
Operating System
The combination of QuickBooks 2008 and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 8 requires the U.S. version of Windows XP or Windows Vista, either 16- or 32-bit, installed natively rather than virtually. If you plan to run this edition of the QuickBooks software under Windows 7, you must use Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate in XP Mode to avoid compatibility issues. Because Intuit ended technical support for QuickBooks 2008 on May 31, 2011, and did not test the combination of this edition and Windows 7, you can look for peer assistance in the QuickBooks Community help forums.
Hardware
Using QuickBooks 2008 and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 8 under Windows XP, you'll need at least a 2.0 GHz processor with 512 MB of RAM on client computers and at least 1 GB of RAM for your server. Under 16- or 32-bit Windows Vista, the hardware requirements climb to having at least a 2.8 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM on client computers. The software itself occupies 1 GB of disk space, plus room for your working files. Installing Microsoft's .NET 2.0 Runtime adds 50 MB to the disk-space requirement. Using Google Desktop Search can generate indices up to 1 GB in size, depending on the searches you perform and the size of your QuickBooks company file. Because of performance penalties, Intuit recommends against using Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks, or RAID, on systems that run this edition of QuickBooks.
